It has very distinctive pleated, circular and undivided leaves with notched tips. Bisexual(male and female on the same flower) inflorescent emerges from among the leaves. The green fruits turn red when ripe. rounded and marble-like. Bears single seed inside.

Being an under-story rainforest palm, they prefer to grow in lightly shaded or full shade area. Avoid expose them to direct sunlight and should be protected from strong winds and heaving rains. Direct sunlight will turn the leaves brown. Because of its slow growing habit, it is perfect to grow in containers. Very popular used in landscaping and house plant.
